How Much Does a Hospitality Business Coach Cost in NZ?
In New Zealand, a hospitality business coach usually costs somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars a month, depending on whether you coach in a group or one-on-one. At The Cafe Doctor, group coaching is $695 a month + GST after an eight-week Foundation programme at $1,200 + GST. One-on-one is $2,000 a month + GST. No contracts.
What are you actually paying for?
Not advice. Advice is free and most of it is wrong. You are paying for someone to sit across from your numbers every week and make you do the thing you already know you should be doing.
A good coach should be able to tell you, inside the first month, where your profit is leaking and what to fix first. If they can't, you are paying for company.
Group or one-on-one: which is cheaper in the long run?
Group is cheaper per month. One-on-one is faster when something is on fire. Group suits most owners turning over somewhere near $1M, because the problems repeat from venue to venue: food and wage costs managed separately, a menu nobody has costed, and an owner who is still the busiest person on the roster.
If the problem is specific to your venue and urgent, one-on-one makes more sense. You get the whole hour on your numbers, your team and your venue.
How do you know it's worth it?
Do the maths before you sign anything. If the coaching costs $695 a month, it needs to find you more than $8,340 a year in extra profit to pay for itself. For a cafe turning over $1M, that is less than 1% of sales.
Last financial year, the 47 venues we coach averaged 140% growth in EBIT. Some passed 250%. Ask any coach for their numbers and how they measured them. If they get vague, so should your interest.
What should you avoid?
Long contracts. Coaches who have never owned a business. Anyone promising a hack. And anyone who can't explain, in one sentence, how they will make you more money.
Our clients stay nine years on average, with no contract keeping them there. That is the only retention strategy that works.
Can you try it first?
Yes. Start with a free Profit Finding Session. It costs nothing and you leave knowing where your profit is going. Or run the Profit Leak Finder yourself first. Full details of both options are on the How We Work Together page.
